I take the time to note that, like normblog, Angela Merkel thinks Israel has not only a right but also a duty to defend its citizens against rocket fire. Here she evidently differs with the BBC's Mishal Husain. Just watch Husain in this short film:
I confess to some lingering residue of naïveté, even after... well, everything. Husain appears to think, and is brazen enough to articulate it, that not enough Israelis have been killed by rockets from Gaza. I do not suggest (note this well) that she'd actually welcome more Israeli dead. But she does think there need to be more of them before Israel can legitimately retaliate with arms to rockets being aimed against its civilian population. Therefore what? Israelis must just take shelter for as long as necessary? I'd say this was unbelievable were it not now so common, at least by implication, in attitudes towards Israel.
