There's no getting away from it: the illogicality of those opposed to same-sex marriage knows no limit, none at all. Here's the Daily Telegraph leader today in defence of the Church of England's opposed stance:
Matrimony, as the word suggests, involves the union of a woman and a man and legislation is not going to change that fact.
Got it? That's what marriage is, and nothing - no mere laws - can change it. OK, hold on to this for, ooh, 11 lines. That's how many lines later you'll read...
As the Church of England says: "Changing the state's understanding of marriage will change the way marriage is defined for everybody..."
A conventional 'fact' beyond all change of meaning, then, except when it isn't. Oh, well...
