I've presumed on your patience long enough; here, now, are the results of the Beach Boys poll. First, some basic stats. Despite my best efforts at nagging, I received just 49 entries. This tells you either that the Beach Boys don't have the same fan base as Bob Dylan or the Beatles, or that the normblog polls have had their day, or both. Those who sent in an entry voted for 71 songs in all, but their choices were highly concentrated. For a first-place vote I gave 10 points to the song, second-place 9 points, and so on down to 1 point for a tenth-place vote. Where an entry didn't rank the songs chosen, I gave each song an average of the total points available for the entry. At the end of the count, I rounded up all song totals containing a decimal point.
On this basis, it's very clear what the two most popular songs of the Beach Boys are. I give the number of points obtained by each title in brackets after its place number.
