Mr. Larsen disdained draws and often sought to create unbalanced positions where both players had good winning, and losing, chances. He was well aware of the risks of this approach.
"To win, it is necessary to accept lost positions," he said.

Larsen was one of the grandest of grandmasters, a risk-loving devotee of aggressive chess and a perennial favourite of the chess public around the world for several decades. In the annals of fighting chess his name will go down to posterity along with his contemporaries Tal, Bronstein and Fischer.
