A Swedish newspaper has carried a report claiming that 'Israeli soldiers are abducting Palestinians in order to steal their organs'. Another Swedish paper, the liberal Sydsvenskan, has responded with this condemnation:
But the paper in which the report appeared, the Aftonbladet - must be a paper of the far right, right? Wrong. Why have they not subjected this story to the most rigorous standards of evidence and corroboration, of checking and double-checking, before printing it? I couldn't tell you. (Thanks: YZ.)Whispers in the dark. Anonymous sources. Rumors. That is all it takes. After all we all know what they [the Jews] are like, don't we: inhuman, hardened. Capable of anything.
Update at 11.30 am. See now also here - the Swedish Embassy in Tel Aviv has condemned the report: 'The article in the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet is as shocking and appalling to us Swedes, as it is to Israeli citizens. We share the dismay expressed by Israeli government representatives, media and the Israeli public.' The author of the report is quoted as saying, 'whether it's true or not - I have no idea, I have no clue'. (Thanks: MK.)
