Keeping the river theme going from last time allows me to introduce a song of heartbreak of a very particular kind. That is to say, it's male heartbreak and it doesn't sound all that heartbroken when you come right down to it, but is inflected by an idea of escape which you might think not entirely unpleasurable. It's Willie Nelson with 'Whiskey River': 'Whiskey river take my mind, don't let her memory torture me' and 'a warm and emtpy heart you left so cold'; but listen and see if the heartbreak isn't just a touch mischievous. And while you're listening, pay attention to that harmonica - about which there is more in this old post. (For prompting me on the song, thanks to Ann O'Dyne.)
