Adèle and I just came back from four days in Venice - with travelling time and brief stopovers in Paris and Milan, a week away (which is why blogging here has been lighter than usual). As I did for Florence two years ago, I now do for Venice. I give you 10 reasons we had a great time in Venice. These aren't in any order.
1. The Fortuny Museum. This would have been good at any time. What made it spectacular was an exhibition of the work of Roberto Capucci.
2. The Accademia. A 'very rich collection' of paintings is right.
3. The Ca'Rezzonico. Henry James thought well of it, and so do I. It's magnificent.
4. Well, of course - St Mark's.
5. These horses in the Basilica.
6. The Guggenheim.
7. A scarf shop in which I found, to my surprise, that seeing a whole lot of beautiful scarves beautifully arranged can be an uplifting experience, and in which WotN did her bit for the world economy.
9. The Ghetto.
10. Venice. I mean, just the totality of the place: the canals, the streets, and side streets, and the alleys and squares, the amazing maze-like extension of it all.
There was more, much more, than that. But just so as you know I haven't been wasting my time. Back to normal here as soon as I can.
