I pick this one up from the open invitation at Shuggy's place. So where was I ...?
Princess Diana's death - 31st August 1997
I was at home. Everyone else in the house was asleep, and I came downstairs on that Sunday morning, turned on the radio and could hear that something dramatic had happened overnight.
Margaret Thatcher's Resignation - 22nd November 1990
I was at work, just about to give a lecture in the Political Concepts course. (That makes it a Thursday.) One of the students told me Thatcher was gone. I'd rather have nipped out for a celebration but I gave the lecture.
Attack on the Twin Towers - 11 September 2001
Ditto. At work in the department, of which I'd just recently finished a four-year stint as head. I was feeling free. My friend Steve called me to come and listen to the radio which he had on in his office. Later I went home and saw the pictures.
England's World Cup Semi-Final against Germany - 4 July 1990
I don't know. But it's possible I was in Bolton. I know there was one game from that World Cup that I watched at a friend's house there. But I'm not sure which game it was.
President Kennedy's Assassination - 22 November 1963
I was in a cinema in Leicester Square with my then girlfriend. An announcement was flashed up on the screen, but we couldn't make it out. After the movie, on the underground platform waiting for a train to Baron's Court, we heard what had happened.
Over to anyone else who might want to have a go.
