I've previously posted here on negative reactions to the NUJ boycott of Israeli goods. There's more along the same lines in this post at Engage. One thing I seem to have missed, though, when getting ready to go away was a letter to the Guardian signed by nine people who belong to an organization called Jews for Boycotting Israeli Goods (see second letter down). I'm not sure why that makes me laugh, but it does. Tiddlywinks Players for Justice for Imprisoned Motorists; Dutch Tree-Surgeons against Climate Change; etc.
But, anyway, eight of the nine signatories to this letter are also signatories to the Independent Jewish Voices statement. Remember: the IJVers who lay claim to old Jewish traditions of universalism and justice. It's that well-known universalism that, from all the countries of the world, focuses on precisely one as to be targeted by a boycott. (Thanks: AC.)
