I've been getting critical emails about this series. Why no Miles Davis? Why no Louis? The answer is: no Miles or Louis yet. The basis of the series was explained in the first instalment and included this:
I follow no order other than that this is what I'm playing at home today, played yesterday, etc.Anyway, this morning I shall risk incurring further puzzlement, or even wrath, by choosing an album by Diana Krall in defiance of the judgement of those sources I usually cite here in support of my selections. Cook and Morton aren't at all keen, and Allmusic say it 'border[s] on easy listening'. That's OK with me. Who said all listening had to be of one kind or hard? Diana Krall knows how to deliver a jazz standard in her 'rich, resonant contralto', the songs are lovely, and her own piano playing in support of what she sings is the business. So... strings, crossover, whatever, I'm recommending to you Diana Krall's The Look of Love (2001 - 51 minutes).
