It's the anniversary of the massacre at Babi Yar. Terry Davis for the Council of Europe:
Even if there are no nuances in absolute evil, the massacre of Babi Yar stands out for cruelty, method and premeditation. Sixty five years ago, tens of thousands of Jews from the city of Kyiv were told to gather on the corner of Melnikovsky and Dokhturov streets. They expected to be deported by train; instead, they were taken to the Babi Yar gorge where small groups of terrorised and desperate human beings - one after another - were told to undress and lie down on the growing pile of human bodies already in the gorge. And then they were killed, by people who must have been human, yet acted like monsters deprived of any sense of humanity. And see here and here. (Thanks: GC.)... [I]t is not enough to say "I remember", and it is not enough to say "never again".
