After a day trip across the Pennines for a family get-together yesterday, me and WotN continued with our Coen brothers retrospective. We're now up to Fargo, and what a brilliant movie that is. Last night's viewing only confirmed it. It matches the best of Hitchcock: beautifully plotted, economical, dramatic, well-acted, very funny in places, and with a depth of human character on display. Up to now, my favourite Coen brothers movie has been The Big Lebowski - the next one in the sequence. I'll have to see if I maintain this view after watching it again. But Fargo pushes it close.
