When talking, a postmodernist gives every appearance of affirming something or other; but when called on to answer for what she appears to affirm, she's only (like) selling ice cream. Or to use a more topical analogy, if you were playing football against a postmodernist team and scored a goal, they'd tell you they weren't really playing football - it only looked like they were. It's more self-enclosure, but it does less good.
