Most people, I think, will be familiar with the discourse of the person who is saved. It can go something like this:
I've long suffered from a trouble (with my obsessive worrying, my financial profligacy, my husband etc). But I thought things through, and/or saw the light, and/or discussed it with my therapist, and I'm over it now.You may not - though you also may - have come across the person who is not just saved, but saved repeatedly, and from the same problem. At regular intervals they tell you they are. They appear not to realize that their latest declaration of saved-ness undermines all the earlier declarations, which in turn then cast doubt on the latest one.
