Robert Fisk was interviewed by Tony Jones on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's Lateline a couple of nights ago. It is impossible to do justice to the quality of his contribution by an excerpt or summary. Just go and read it all.
Two comments only: 1) Note how everything said ('bestialisation... of those people we want to hate', 'creating these creatures for ourselves to hate') is also taken back - to cover his back. 2) It is commonly said against people of what, for short, I'll here just call Eustonian persuasion that our criticisms apply to no more than a handful of dead-enders in the SWP and RESPECT. Yet, week after week, we hear prominent journalists and others of a rather broader segment of left-liberal opinion coming out with stuff of this kind or, where it is a cut above it, still clearly exemplifying the themes we have identified and criticized - the Fisks, the Pilgers and Pinters, the Buntings, Steeles and even the singular Jacques, and then some. Anyway, Fisk in this interview is a pathetic self-caricature of the whole tendency. (Via Tim Blair.)
