Ian Mayes, the Guardian's readers' editor, gives his response today to representations made to him by David Aaronovitch, Oliver Kamm and Francis Wheen over the Emma Brockes interview with Noam Chomsky. (And see here.) His response is of an entirely formalistic kind. Mayes writes that...
...none of the material sent to me has convinced me that I should [withdraw his correction].He goes on to say that he isn't 'the right person to consider such a complaint' and that he will refer it to the external ombudsman. The readers' editor relieves himself of the task of explaining to the readers the substance of why he's not persuaded by the material sent to him and by the arguments it contained.
