Here's a report from Haaretz:
Suspected Muslim militants beheaded a villager in southern Thailand on the eve of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the 11th decapitation in 21 months of separatist unrest, police said on Wednesday.A chilling detail:The head and torso of the man, thought to be in his 50s, were dumped in two fertiliser bags beside a road in a rubber plantation in Yala, one of the three southernmost provinces hit by the violence in which 900 people have died.
[A] note was left beside the victim's head saying the murder was in retaliation for police actions.Note the retaliatory symmetries here: they arrest, I kill; those arrested being innocent, those I kill will also be innocent. (For some background, see here.)"You have arrested innocent people from the village. I have killed innocent people in return," the policeman quoted the handwritten Thai-language note as saying.
