The world doesn't come to a halt when Australia starts losing to England at cricket. One of the ways you can tell this is by looking at the Guardian's comments pages. They continue to offer their virtually daily ration of (would-be) progressive inanities. I'm in the happy situation of not having enough time to cover these at length; I just signal them for the benefit of collectors.
Yesterday we had Howard Zinn telling us that America is under occupation. Of course, he doesn't exactly mean it; so it would be pedantic to remind oneself that there had been an election in the US, why, within the last year. Zinn evidently isn't big on elections: somehow the Afghan and Iraqi ones also don't figure in his account of things.
Today, it's the return of Naomi Klein. The 'two main causes' of terrorism, according to her? Racism and torture. Our fault. How are they 'main'? Don't ask. You won't find out. Think, however, Nelson Mandela, and apartheid South Africa.
