You will remember that, not too long ago, Mayor Livingstone was reported as having said this (though he wasn't agreeing with it as a justification for suicide bombing, but in some sort merely explaining it):
Palestinians don't have jet fighters, they only have their bodies to use as weapons. In that unfair balance, that's what people use...A reader now draws my attention to the following, from the site of the Israeli Embassy in London:
The Israeli Security Service (Shin Bet) recently published a summary of all the suicide attacks carried out in Israel since September 2000. According to the document, there were 160 suicide bombers overall, among them 8 women. Out of the 24,000 separate attacks against Israelis, the percentage of suicide bombings stood at only 0.6%. [Emphasis added.](See here [Word file] and here.) If 99.4% of Palestinian attacks against Israelis aren't suicide bombings, it rather goes against the Mayor's claim that 'they only have their bodies to use as weapons'. There must be more to it - like, possibly, the killing and maiming of more Israelis, but without regard to their status as legitimate targets (or otherwise) under international law. (Thanks: JW.)
