Yellow cabs 2

My post on the question of yellow cabs in NYC, has led to a worldwide research effort. This has produced the following responses:

There are 12,053 yellow cabs.
There are between 12,187 and 13,087 yellow cabs.
There are 11,787 yellow cabs.

Well, I'm not in any position to adjudicate between these numbers. But after two and a bit days in the city, I have a basic scepticism towards all of them. I reckon I've already seen more yellow cabs than this.
