It was Saddam Hussein's birthday today. It got me to wondering. It got me to wondering, first, how many of the 'illegal war' folk share the view expressed by his lawyer about the old murderer's present... er... status:

Saddam Hussein met his lawyer for the first time in four months, on the eve of his birthday, the head of the defence team said yesterday.

"The president is in good health and good spirits in his illegal captivity," Ziad Khasawneh said.

And it got me to wondering, second (and quite unrelatedly), whether the Respect candidate for Bethnal Green and Bow would have raised a glass today to an old friend. (Well?! It's just possible that Galloway has an old friend somewhere and that he might have raised a glass to him today.)
