While I'm on that subject, I point you to Gareth's discussion of a recent book by Andre Odendaal, The Story of an African Game: Black Cricketers and the Unmasking of One of South Africa's Greatest Myths, 1850-2003. I have two earlier cricket books by the same author in my collection, both of them signed: God's Forgotten Cricketers (1976), and Cricket in Isolation: The Politics of Race and Cricket in South Africa (1977). I met Andre Odendaal in Cape Town in 1986, when we spent some time talking of shared interests. He was kind enough to let me have some duplicates - on black and coloured cricket in South Africa - from his own collection.
Gareth's discussion takes in the issue of 'representativity' in South African cricket. I agree with what he says about it, but I'm not so sure it should apply at the level of the national team.
