On the day of the Bush inauguration the Guardian leads with this:
World fears new Bush eraIt refers to the results of an opinion survey, and the fears of 'a clear majority' of those surveyed.
The survey also indicated for the first time that dislike of Mr Bush is translating into a dislike of Americans in general.Ahhh... That, I guess, refers to this:
Asked how Mr Bush's re-election had affected their feelings towards Americans, 72% of those polled in Turkey said it made them feel worse about Americans, 65% in France, 59% in Brazil and 56% in Germany.I wonder if they've considered asking Americans what they think of the people who have decided to feel worse about them. (Come on, be serious - Ed.) OK then. I have a modest proposal for the next survey team preparing one of these things and planning to include such an America or Americans question. Somewhere else in the survey slip in the following items:
> List in rank order the 10 countries you'd most like to visit. Then, correlate the aggregate responses on these two items with the 'What do you think of America/Americans?' stuff.> List in rank order the 10 countries you'd most like to emigrate to (if you were emigrating).
