More than 40 people, most of them Iraqi children, have been killed as three car bombs exploded in western Baghdad. It was feared the toll would rise as 200 people were injured in the attacks."We have 41 dead - three men and one woman and the rest were children," said Naji Shitshan, the morgue director at Yarmouk Hospital. Three more people were later reported dead.

Residents said a ceremony to open a new water and sewage plant was taking place when the attack occurred. The children had gathered to watch the ribbon-cutting.
