WotN and HoWotN stepped out this evening to go see Dodgeball. It's brash, boisterous, vulgar, over-the-top, humane and very funny. There's a superbly revolting performance from Ben Stiller ('a creation of camp genius'), with excellent back-up from veteran Rip Torn - as coach Patches O'Houlihan - and Vince Vaughn as your basic good guy. If refinement and subtlety are your thing, steer clear. But if you've any feeling for the quirks and the rituals involved in every sport, and some of the sheer madness in the commentary and the culture of many sports, you should enjoy it. Peter Bradshaw rated it 'the best comedy of the year'. His review is here.
Just by the way, Lance Armstrong makes a pivotal appearance as himself, his story of battling back from a life-threatening illness being put to excellent use. Its A True Underdog Story and definitely worth a visit.
