Another contrast with the cycle of violence discourse I discussed earlier today with respect to Falluja:
Muslim leaders in the central Iraqi town of Falluja have condemned the mutilation of the bodies of four Americans killed in the town this week.Meanwhile, via Roger Simon I found my way to another disagreeable response to the same episode: as in 'I felt nothing' and 'screw them'. But their author (so he now explains) was angry, so that's all right then. Anger: one of the two prime excuses for this kind of blogospheric excess. The other: I didn't really mean it; I was just having a joke. Roger also links to this piece by Christopher Hitchens on Falluja. (Hat tip: Anthony Cox.)
.....
During Friday prayers the clerics told worshippers Islam prohibited such acts.
.....
At one Falluja mosque on Friday Sheikh Fawzi Nameq told hundreds of worshippers: "Islam does not condone the mutilation of the bodies of the dead."He said such acts brought "humiliation to the faithful".
Another Falluja cleric, Sheikh Hamid Saleh called the mutilations "childish behaviour committed by ignorants who don't know the meaning of life and death".
