Not altogether omnipresent, it would seem. That, at any rate, is my deduction from a piece I read entitled 'Why Is God Still Absent from Downton Abbey?' The author does qualify this alleged absence, saying that God gets a few mentions in the series and that there are a couple of moments of devout prayer. But, still, at Downton God is 'a peripheral presence at best'.
I'm not really in a good position to judge. I watched one season of the show with some attention, and then my concentration began to wander before I finally packed it in. I was more interested in whether Colin Cowdrey would get out of jail than I was in God's whereabouts. I know that people worry about all sorts of stuff. But what Todd Dorman is worrying about at Christianity Today is God's absence - albeit not total - from Downton Abbey.
