Here's news of another memorial to vex whichever Guardian leader writer it is who thinks '2012 is far too late to be building memorials to those involved in a war that ended nearly 70 years ago'. Some folks in Swansea don't agree. They've just unveiled a memorial there for the American soldiers who lived and trained in the area in preparation for the D-Day landings. From this I learned that a boyhood hero of mine (in a brief phase when boxing was what I followed, before cricket took me over for good), Rocky Marciano, was among them. Many of these men died in the battle for Europe.
