The camera doesn't lie, but it also does. This picture proves that I ran in the London Marathon. I ran in the first two London Marathons in fact, and this is from the second of them, in 1982. If you've seen me lately, you may be shocked at my decline in the last 30 years.
Where the camera lies is in this. The photo was taken at roughly the 18-mile mark. I saw the friend who took it up ahead of me, camera at the ready, and so put on a suitably happy face. But, inside, I was so suffering at that point - like totally. I was thinking, 'This is the last time I take part in a marathon.' And it was.
