I've mentioned the album once before, but if I'm putting together a list to recommend to anyone wanting to build a jazz collection, this one has got to be on it - even though, so far as I know, it was only produced as a promotional CD and never made available through ordinary commercial channels. Be that as it may, The Duets (1999 - 52 minutes), bringing togther Mulgrew Miller on piano and Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass in a homage to Duke Ellington, is a must-have. Apart from the fact that it's Ellington's music, the partnership between the two musicians is a wonderful success, and NHOP's virtuosity and precision are in places stunning. Get it if you can.
