Useful memory loss
This one's mainly for readers of a certain age - though you young whippersnappers have no cause to be cocky; it'll happen to you. But, anyway, you know how sometimes you open your mouth to say something - the name of a book, an author, the main star in a movie you saw, a recent acquaintance - and just what you need to get the name out is what you find you don't have? (My advice to you in this situation: just say a word you think might be close; it can sometimes get you there.)
We think it's a bad thing, a sign of the brain's deterioration. Here's news that this may not be the case. It could just be the product of 'a gradually widening focus of attention that makes it more difficult to latch onto just one fact... Although that can be frustrating, it is often useful.' Excellent to learn of it. (Via... damn, where was it I saw that... oh yes.)
