Pamela Bone

Tonight I heard from friends in Australia that Pamela Bone has died. This is very sad news. I got to know Pamela some time after I started this blog, and she wrote a few pieces for it. I enjoyed her hospitality while I was in Melbourne in late 2006. Adèle and I saw her here in Manchester in January. She was in good heart and talking with enthusiasm about the new book she was writing. There are notices of Pamela's death in The Australian and The Age. Her friend John Spooner said she was 'one of the finest, most independent, most courageous journalists I have ever met'. For the relatively short time I'd been in touch with her, I already knew Pamela as a good and kind friend.
