The Momma 'n' Daddy Collection 92
Another new name to bring to this series is that of Reba McEntire. Here's a fact about Reba's family: 'Her father, Clark McEntire (1927- ), was world steer roping champion for the years 1957-1958 & 1961. He was inducted into the Rodeo Hall of Fame of the Rodeo Historical Society (a support group of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum) in 1988.' That's something new you've learned today (most of you). Reba's old man is still alive but her narrator's in 'The Greatest Man I Never Knew' isn't:
The greatest man I never knewI don't have to tell you the rhyme for 'sad' and 'had', but I'll tell you anyway: it's 'Dad'. He oughta have told her. Listen to Reba singing it. (Thanks: HK.)
Lived just down the hall
And everyday we said hello
But never touched at all
He was in his paper
I was in my room
How was I to know he thought I hung the moonThe greatest man I never knew
Came home late every night
He never had too much to say
Too much was on his mind
I never really knew him
And now it seems so sad
Everything he gave to us took all he hadThen the days turned into years
And the memories to black and white
He grew cold like an old winter wind
Blowing across my lifeThe greatest words I never heard
I guess I'll never hear
The man I thought could never die
S'been dead almost a year
He was good at business
But there was business left to do
He never said he loved me
Guess he thought I knew
