There are albums that you love just for the quality of what's on them. It won't have mattered when you first heard them. There are others, however, that you like both for the music and because you've known them forever. Dave Brubeck's Jazz Goes to College (1955 - 52 minutes) is, for me, one of those. It was one of the first two or three albums I ever owned. Every note of it is etched upon my brain. That's not a reason why you would like it, of course, but I think it's as well worth your time as more famous Brubeck outings like Time Out. On the opening track - 'Balcony Rock' - Paul Desmond excels himself, and Brubeck is in top form throughout. Reviewed here.
