In an article in the Fall 2007 issue of Dissent, Mitchell Cohen delineates the contours of a new offensive:
The offensive comes from within parts of the liberal and left intelligentsia in the United States and Europe... It is shaped largely by political attitudes and arguments that recall the worst of the 20th century left.Towards the end of the article Cohen sets out four major themes of anti-Semitism and then four parallel themes of anti-Zionism - under the headings 'Insinuations', 'Complaints', 'Remonstrations', 'Recriminations'. He concludes:
It is time for the left that learns, that grows, that reflects, that has historical not rhetorical perspective, and that wants a future based on its own best values to say loudly to the left that never learns: You hijacked "left" in the last century, but you won't get away with it again, whatever guise you don.
