Not far from the wire

When I said recently that The Sopranos was the best damned thing on TV, two people wrote to me to say no, second-best; and they pointed me to The Wire. Yet to catch up with it, though I mean to do so.

Meanwhile, with tonight bringing the penultimate episode of the final series of the doings of Tony Soprano and his charming friends, Robin McKie says why he thinks The Sopranos is 'the best TV drama series ever made'.
