The other day I had something to say about memory and cricketers' initials (see the fourth paragraph here). Frank Keating has an entertaining piece on the subject, taking off from a scurrilous though tongue-in-cheek suggestion concerning the intimate life of Carmen Callil and an England cricketer of the post-war years and some renown - a certain PBH. Like Keating, and no doubt many another cricket fan, I knew at once who he meant.
