The Saudis are on the point of executing a teenager:
Human rights campaigners yesterday urged the authorities not to behead a 19-year-old Sri Lankan maid found guilty of killing a baby in her care. The young woman is said by the Saudi authorities to have admitted to the crime, but she denies that; and she had no lawyer at her trial. It's not surprising that human rights campaigners are upset by this - all except for Suhaila Hammad, spokeswoman of Saudi Arabia's 'National Society for Human Rights', who seems fine with it. Prisoners, she said, are 'treated humanely'. (Thanks: AC.)
