G. Miller run out 0
In 1984 I went to Lord's for the Saturday of the Test between England and the West Indies. The last time I'd been there was in 1966, when I witnessed a famous match-saving stand between Gary Sobers and his cousin David Holford (see here at the bottom). On that Saturday in 1984, there was one of the most extraordinary run outs I've ever seen. Unfortunately, there are no books about the series, which is odd given that Clive Lloyd's side beat England 5-0 - the famous 'Blackwash'. Here is what I wrote about the dismissal more than a decade later:
Another thing I remember from that same day: Eldine Baptiste runs out Geoff Miller with a phenomenal throw from the very furthest corner of the ground, breaking the wicket directly as poor Miller, innocent of any danger, casually strolls what he thinks is an easy run. - Norman Geras and Ian Holliday, Ashes '97: Two Views from the BoundaryFrom two contemporary match reports:
Miller was run out in spectacular fashion when Baptiste uprooted the middle stump at the Nursery End with an 80-yard throw from the long-leg boundary in front of the Warner Stand. - Wisden 1985There was some good bowling by Marshall and a brilliant run out from the fine-leg boundary by Baptiste which left Miller stranded... - Official Cornhill Insurance Souvenir Programme (for the third Test in the same series)
