Hamo, Hamas, Ha-maybe-not

Three times recently I've linked to reports in which people speaking for Hamas seemed to be drawing a line under the use of suicide bombings. They've said things like:

We deplore any action where civilians are killed, yes, including Israeli civilians.
And:
The suicide bombings... came to an end as a change of belief.
Under the first of the links given above, you'll find that I was wondering how robust this change of position on Hamas's part was. Now we know. Not robust at all. Yesterday's bombing in Tel Aviv was called by a Hamas spokesman 'a legitimate act of self-defense'. That looks different from 'deploring'; it rather puts in question the 'change of belief'.
