Women's rally disrupted

An International Women's Day rally was attacked in Tehran yesterday:

Thousands of women gathered... in Student Park in central Tehran to celebrate Women's Day. They carried placards with slogans calling for equality, peace, resistance, and freedom.

As was predicted, the police and a militia group called Hezbollah attacked and beat them, using electric batons.

From an email from Iran I have it that the police beat both men and women, including foreign and local journalists and the distinguished Iranian poet, Simin Behbahani. They also made arrests. There are some pictures and a short account here, and more pictures here. (See also this report.)
