Those of us on the liberal left who don't have the knee jerk response to every conceivable measure aimed at securing people against terrorist atrocity - the response that it puts us on the slippery slope to fascism and so forth - need to be clear when legislation is pending that in fact cannot be justified. As reported, for example, here:
He [Charles Clarke]... made clear to MPs and peers that the new definition of "glorifying terrorism" would also catch those in Britain who supported terrorist attacks on repressive regimes around the world, even if they were on military targets.That obfuscates the meaning of 'terrorism'. If it became law it would rule out solidarity with movements against regimes oppressing their own people, no matter how scrupulous such movements were about not targeting civilians. It is bad law.
