More on Holocaust remembrance

Further to my post on the singularity of the Holocaust, read Shalom Lappin's argument on the same subject over at Engage:

Imagine that someone purporting to speak in the name of egalitarianism and universal justice challenged the appropriateness of Black History Month in the United States (the annual national celebration during February of the African American struggle for liberation in America and the contribution of African Americans to their country). He/she might argue that this event is exclusivist in that it focuses attention on African American suffering and achievement to the exclusion of native Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, women, etc. Such an "argument" would be immediately and correctly dismissed by mainstream opinion as misguided and bigoted in its refusal to grant African Americans their rightful place in the fabric of American civic culture.
